  • Robotics storage and retrievment system (RSRS)

ABB Robotics introduced a tailored small-scale storage and retrieval solution for reliable performance and high application flexibility.

As the robot in the RSRS system receives commands to store goods fed in on the inbound conveyor, the system commands the robot to store the items in a defined rack position. The robot can also receive commands to retrieve these items and put them on an outbound conveyor.

The system can be used for storage and retrieval of high runner return items in warehouses, sequencing outgoing orders in standard totes to optimize loading, buffering orders for order consolidation and more.

The system configuration can accommodate different sizes and up to 700 storage locations for totes, with a maximum performance of up to 250 storage retrieval cycles per hour.

  • Automatic bin picking with Covariant

ABB Robotics' recent partnership with Covariant has accelerated its expansion into distribution and e-commerce fulfillment sectors using AI technology. The partnership brings together the two companies, ABB Robotics and Covariant, with a shared vision for robotics enabled by AI, where intelligent robots work alongside humans in dynamic environments, collectively learning and improving with every task completed.

The development of a robust AI robotic solution capable of supporting autonomous material handling and can handle items of infinite variety. The covariant brain is a universal AI that allows robots to see, reason and act in the world around them, completing tasks too complex and varied for traditional programmed robots.

The first installation of the ABB and Covariant AI-enabled solution has already been deployed at Active Ants, a leading provider of e-commerce fulfillment services for web business in the Netherlands.
